This weeks progress has all happened in the last few days, as I have been waiting for bits to arrive to carry on or finish things up.
The biggest finish for this week is my Swoon Top!
I'm am jumping up and down happy with this quilt top! It is a mahousive 96"x96" and definitely the biggest quilt I will ever make! My back is still suffering from that last border. I need to order the backing and get this off to a longarm quilter! There is no way I'm even going to attempt to tackle this beast.
Any UK people got any experience with an England based longarmer, who will offer quilting advice and a good price??
The next bit of progress from the list, is that I've got the backing together for the Hootnanny Quilt and the wadding finally arrived yesterday.
So this afternoons task is to get that basted.
And lastly, I've finally sterted on the Dolls House Mat. it's all cut and I've got all the windows assembled, I just need to start putting them onto the door panels and adding the details.
And make the storage boxes for the roof, but this needs brown thread and I'm rather lacking in brown, so I'm off to Hobbycraft in the morning.
The list is looking ............

The Swoon looks fab, and i don't blame you for wanting to send it out for quilting! Trudi Wood (Quilting Prolifically) does quilting for others, and she is absolutely lovely, don't have any idea about cost with her, but she is a total sweetheart, and I am sure she would be great for advice :o)
ReplyDeleteWow, that Swoon top looks brilliant....you really are an inspiration! (well you certainly are for me, who still hopes one day to do some 'serious' sewing!) I followed the link to the dolls house mat the other day, it is such a cute idea. My MIL spends a lot of time quilting and has talked about Long Arm quilting, no idea if she has ever sent any of her quilts off though, I'm not sure she has....I will find out! Have fun in Hobbycraft!
ReplyDeleteThat swoon is just gorgeous...never get tired of seen a swoon. Love that doll house mat! What a fun gift that will be :)
ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress. Your quilt top looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely contact Trudi wood if I was in the market for some special long arm quilting. I've had a couple of quilts done by long arm Chris at father's heart quilting. She was great and a reasonable price for an all over pantograph design. Sadly my horizon was bought on the agreement that I would quilt all my quilts myself so my swoon will be getting the straight line treatment!
ReplyDeleteThe Swoon quilt is gorgeous!! This is definitely making me want to make one now!!
ReplyDeleteBrava and what a beauty. Talk to Trudi!
ReplyDeleteI've only ever seen Trudi's work up close. She's not a long armer though - she's better - not a pantograph in sight. If your looking for a truly one of a kind quilt she's your best bet!
ReplyDeleteOh my - lots of fun goodies! The quilt is amazing - I don't blame you for not wanting to wrangle a quilt that size under a regular machine - I did it once with a similar sized string quilt (strings on foundations, plus batting, plus flannel backing - SO heavy!) - I only managed to stitch in the ditch of the block seams, and couldn't move for a month afterwards, lol. Never again! The doll house play mat is adorable - is it really 5 feet wide when opened up, or is that a typo?!
ReplyDeleteyour swoon quilt is amazing. Would love to hear about your experience with a longarm quilter. I am making a quilt for my parents and will be in the UK next summer so want to get it quilted there (if I can afford it!).
ReplyDeleteYou're making huge strides through that list! Your swoon top is amazing. The sashing and borders you've chosen are perfect. And I'm really looking forward to your dolls house mat :)
ReplyDeleteWoot on the Swoon! I vote Trudles too :o)
